Security Expert Data Sync Log Error 'Failed to GetTableSchema' and Server memory configuration

Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support for assistance. Issue Security Expert Data Sync Service is randomly crashing and there is an error 'Failed to GetTableSchema' in the DSS Log Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Application Server Security Expert Data Sync Service Microsoft Windows IIS Cause Memory may be consumed by IIS over time and crashes data sync service once the total memory approaches Microsoft's 4 GB limitation for 32-bit applications. Resolution There are a few items that can be configured in Data Sync Service (DSS) and in IIS to manage memory consumption which will prevent application crashes and DSS from not importing .csv contents Removal of additional table references  Removal of these tables in the Settings.xml configuration file located in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider  Electric\Data Sync Service will stop the Security Expert application event view errors from posting. Here is what is seen in the SX application event view. Each event will represent a different table.  The below example shows the Salto Calendars Make a backup copy of the settings.xml file Copy the settings.xml to a temp folder Edit the settings.xml in the temp folder using Notepad++ Admin mode and remove all unnecessary rows just below the <DataMapping> section. <RecordType238... <RecordType225... The example below removes all entries except *Users Before:  After: Save the file Copy the settings.xml from the temp folder into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\Data Sync Service  folder and select the Replace option (This ensures the older settings.xml file is overwritten) Close the DSS application and restart it. When the new settings.xml file is being used only *Users will have an asterisk in DSS. Also, as a result of this change, the errors in the SX application log will stop posting and no longer consume "extra" resources. Increase the IIS Worker Processes from 1 to 4 Open IIS Manager Select Application Pools Select DefaultAppPool Select Advanced Settings Change the Worker Process from 1(default) to 2, 3 or 4 (In at least one case, R&D recommended setting this to 4 in order to spread the processes and memory out) Select Recycle in the right-hand pane Recycling Condition Workers IIS by default sets application pool(s) to recycle after an interval of 29 hours (1740 minutes). This can cause issues when using in-memory sessions. Example: DSS application crashing about every 28 hours. Memory was being accumulated over such a long period without being recycled. Recycling every 8 hours reduces the time the memory accumulates. This setting is like a  Windows reboot, but specific to an application pool. Open IIS Go to Application Pools, select DefaultAppPool. In the right-hand pane select Recycling. Change Regular time intervals (in minutes) from 1740(29 hours) to 480 (8 hours) Click Next, Finish Select Recycle Summary: Making these changes will reduce the memory consumption that increases over time for the Data Sync Service application and prevent crashing of the application.

Assigning an OSDP Reader to an Elevator

Issue In the Security Expert v4.3.285.42 (current release), there is an issue assigning an OSDP Reader to an Elevator. With the reader expander port Network Type set to RS485, when configuring the Smart Reader record to use the OSDP reader, the option to assign it to an elevator is not available.   Product Line Security Expert Environment Elevator OSDP Security Expert Smartcard Reader Security Expert Server Cause The configuration steps are not obvious and a temporary workaround is required until the issue is fixed. Resolution This is a temporary workaround as the issue is fixed in a future version. Change the reader expander port network type to Third Party Generic and click save Navigate to the Smart Reader record and change the reader mode to the elevator and assign the elevator, click save Then change the reader expander port back to RS485.   *Note* The saved elevator settings on the Smart Reader’s Reader tab will not be visible but the settings you saved will be properly downloaded to the controller.

How to control an output with one or more inputs.

Issue How to control an output with one or more inputs. Product Line EcoStruxure Security Expert Environment Security Expert Cause Unsure how to program one or more inputs to directly control an output. Input Control Output Resolution The below guide details how to use an Input to activate an Output on Security Expert and SP-C-WEB systems. An output can be assigned to the Input Type and to the Input allowing many to one and one to many configurations.   In order for an Input to activate an Output it needs two things: To be inside an always armed area - This can be an Automation/Dummy area with its only purpose being to activate the output. To have an Input Type that tells it to activate an Output   Single/Multiple Input Activating the same Output If one or more inputs are required to activate the same output, this output can be defined by the input type. The below is a simple scenario where when the Input turns ON the Control Output turns ON, when the Input turns OFF the Control Output turns OFF. Other types of output activations can be configured if required. Creating the Area Navigate to Programming > Areas Add a new area and name it Automation Area, set the Entry and Exit Delay Times to 0. All other settings can be left default. Creating the Input Type Navigate to Programming > Input Types. Create a new Input Type Set the Control Output to the required output Under Options 2 enable the required control options for your scenario e.g. to have the output follow the input exactly enable "Activate Control Output on Alarm" and "Deactivate Control Output on Restore". To have the output activate for a time simply enable "Activate Control Output on Alarm" and set the "Activation Time" under the General tab of the Input Type Menu (Control Output Time) Set any other options that may be required Configuring the Input Navigate to Programming > Inputs select the Input and set the following: Set the Area to the Automation Area created in Step 1 Set the Input Type to the Input Type created in Step 2 Testing Check for any related health status messages that need to be resolved Arm both portions of the Area Activate the Input to confirm Output Activates   Multiple Inputs Activating Different Outputs When multiple inputs are required to activate different outputs, one input type can be used and the outputs can be defined at each input. Create a new Input Type Under 'Options 3' enable the required control options for your scenario. e.g. to have the output follow the input exactly enable Activate Input Control Output on Alarm and Deactivate Input Control Output on Restore. To have the output activate for a time simply enable Activate Input Control Output on Alarm and set the Activation Time at the Output itself Set any other options that may be required Configuring the Input Navigate to Programming > Inputs select the Input and set the following Set the Control Output to the appropriate Output Set the Area to the Automation Area created in Step 1 Set the Input Type to the Input Type created in Step 2 Testing Arm both portions of the Area Activate the Input to confirm Output Activates

How to delay an Input alarm and send as an email

Issue Need to delay an Input from going into alarm before sending that alarm to an email recipient. Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Cause Have a requirement to email alarms for Door inputs that are not actually tied to Door records. Resolution One method of configuring this is to use an Area: Add the Input to the Area to trigger an alarm Configure that alarm event into an Email using an Action.  See the following detailed steps:  Under Programming: Inputs Configure the Alarm Input Speed option for the Input. This will be the delay time before the input triggers an alarm event. Set this to how long the door needs to be open before the alarm is generated. Under Events Create an Event Filter and add Area <Area_Name> Alarm Activated Create an Alarm and add the Event Filter to it. Create an Action. Configure the Type as Send E-mail Configure the Event Filter to that created previously. Set the Email Settings as required. Under Programming Create an Area On the Configuration tab set all timings to 0. Within the Input On the Areas and Input Types tab add this new Area to Area 1 field Set the Input Type 1 to Instant. In the Options enable Log to Event Buffer so the activations are reported. This setting can be reverted after testing.

Determine the reader that the disabled card has been badged at

Issue When a disabled card is presented to a reader the Door name of that reader is not included in the User Record Disabled events.  Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Disabled User Card Cause Once the user has been disabled the User object no longer resides in the controller. Resolution The information in the User Record Disabled event can be used to determine which reader the user has badged at. The Controller column has the controller that registered this event and the Description will tell you the Reader Expander and Port on that Expander. Security Expert Client crashes when browsing to the Status Page Editor

Issue Security Expert Client crashes when attempting to browse to the Status Page Editor. Unable to create Status Pages for system monitoring. When viewing Status Pages none are shown and the word "Frame" is displayed in the view. Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Client Status Pages Cause The problem is due to the site database not containing the default id=0 objects, as there is no Status Page for your site the client crashes when it tries to load this when browsing to Monitoring | Setup | Status Page Editor. This can occur when the original default controller is not created when the Site is first configured. Part of this process is that a number of default objects are created as well as the first controller. If you have a look at the site database again you will see that it also does not contain any Event Filters or Actions which means that there are no events being logged as well. Status Page Resolution There are two options to resolve these missing default records: Start with a new Security Expert database and ensure that when creating your Site that the first controller is created with the Controller Wizard. At the end of this process, the default site objects are also created. Setup a support case with Product Support to arrange for a remote connection with R&D where they will create the missing records with the use of the DataSync Service. The site's SSN will need to be provided so that SOAP and DataSync service are enabled for the session.

The difference between using "Control Output" and "Input Control Output"

Issue When configuring an Input to control an Output in an Input Type, what are the differences between using the "Control Output" or "Input Control Output" options? Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Cause When configuring Input Types there can be some confusion with the terminology used to describe the two types of Outputs that can be controlled from an Input event.  Control Output options on the Input Types Options (2) tab Input Control Output options on the Input Types Options (3) tab Resolution The "Control Output" options refer to the Control Output defined in the Input Type's General tab. Control Output The "Input Control Output" options refer to the Control Output defined in the individual Inputs General tab. Input Control Output An explanation for a related example would be: If a common output for all inputs of the Input Type then; On the Options (2) tab enable the Activate Control Output On Alarm and Deactivate Control Output On Restore. On the Configuration tab of the Input Type, set the Control Output to the output you want to trigger. Else if each input has a separate output then; On the Options (3) tab enable the Activate Input Control Output On Alarm and Deactivate Input Control Output On Restore. In each Input set the Control Output to the output you want to trigger.

How to have a door's REN input operate on a schedule

Issue Need to configure a door to unlock on REN (Request to Enter) only during business hours Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Server Security Expert Controller Cause Guidelines needed on how to configure the door's REN input to unlock the door only when a specified schedule is active. Resolution Do not configure a REN input in the door, instead follow the steps below: Create a virtual output. Create the input that will be used for Request to Enter (REN) Create the schedule that the REN should follow. Create a dummy area   A virtual output is one with no association to a physical channel. In the screenshot shown below, you see an Output Expander configured with Physical Address 100, since there is no physical expander using that address, ALL outputs configured under these expanders will be virtual outputs. Create Input Type Set Operating Schedule to the schedule created above. (REN Input Schedule) Set Control Output to the virtual output created above. (VO1) Set Control Output Time to the desired lock activation time when triggered by REN In the Options (2) tab, make sure to tick Activate Control Output on Alarm Edit the input created above and add the area and input type. Create a Programmable Function Set type to Door Control Set State to Running In Door Control> Set Door Function Mode to 0-Follow and Test Output Set Door Control Mode to 0-Emulate Unlock Menu Set Output to Check to the virtual output. (VO1) Set Door to Control to the door. MAKE SURE TO START THE FUNCTION Disarm and re-arm the dummy area The input will now trigger the virtual output ONLY when the schedule is active, the virtual output in turn will make the door unlock for the amount of time specified in the Input Type.

Import badge templates in Security Expert

Issue How can I streamline badge creation in Security Expert? Product Line EcoExpert Security Expert Environment Security Expert Server Security Expert Client   Cause There is no "Import/Export badge" feature available in Security Expert (unlike in Episuite/Continuum) Resolution Badge templates are normally provided by the customer.  They should be provided in bitmap (.bmp) or portable graphics format (.png) format. JPEG image format does not work well for resizing.     A new template can also be drawn though this is time consuming.      Blank template from client 1. In Security Expert Client menu, go to Users--> Card Template Editor   Add and name new template, 2. Add blank template as image, go to right side Properties-->Images   Add blank template Adjust image to fit blue outline   3. Add dynamic user fields, go to right side Properties-->User Fields   Add and name fields ONE AT A TIME by dragging out items on to plan (drag one at a time to avoid confusion)     4. Name and place dynamic user fields over-top of blank template layout (Photo, Name, Dept, etc.)   Stretch, Align and Center Fields for uniform finish         5. Save template   6. Preview badge In Security Expert, go to Users--> Users-->Photo tab   Select a user:   Photo ID: Card template(drop-down menu)--> Choose newly created template Photo section: hover over "Print Card >" for card options Print & Process Template - print to pdf/image, etc Note: Do not choose Print & Read if no USB card reader is attached; this will cause an error and shut down Security Expert   Print Preview:

During this time the IP Socket of the SP-C is in a Waiting State, refusing to communicate to anyone else while waiting for an opportunity to upload. Once the controllers data has been uploaded to the server however the controller releases the IP Socket and it is open again to new communication. In an extremely small number of cases the SP-C controller goes into this waiting state as usual but then never comes out of that state, holding onto the IP Socket forever and blocking any further communication until the controller is power reset. This only affects a very small percentage of SP-C controllers running Microsoft Windows CE OS Version 16. Resolution In these extremely rare cases the first step is to identify if the affected controllers are indeed running OS Version16.  For SP-C Firmware builds before 2.0.8.921 Log into the controllers configuration web page. Browse to the Configuration tab. Check the OS Version field at the bottom of the page. For SP-C Firmware build 2.0.8.921 and above the OS is now shown in a different location.   Once it is clear, that the OS is version 16, Product Support can be contacted to arrange to upgrade the controller OS to Version 20 (or greater) as is found in SP-C controllers shipping now. As this is a high risk procedure and can result in complete failure of the controller if anything goes wrong there are two options for upgrading the OS. Install the affected controller on a test bench with remote access for Product Support to remote in to and perform the update. Have the controller sent back to the factory to be updated and returned to site. Both options will require replacing the controller with temporary stock while the upgrade is being performed.

Troubleshoot Security Expert Controllers showing offline in the client.

Issue Troubleshoot Security Expert Controllers showing offline in the client. Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Cause Require some common troubleshooting steps to help determine why controllers may be offline to the client. Resolution The main items to check are: Refer to the Troubleshooting Security Expert Controller Connectivity - Application Note on Exchange Restart the client software. Power restart the controller. Remove power Wait for all LED's on the controller to go completely off Apply power to the controller. In the controller web interface, on the Settings page, check that Event Server 1 has the correct IP address. Check that the Firewall is disabled. Check any Anti-Virus Firewalls/settings as well. Restart the Security Expert services under the PC's Services option in Control Panel. These need to be restarted when any changes are made. Confirm that the module versions are all the same. Go to About  > Version and check there. If the database has not been upgraded to the same version as the client software, then this can cause communications issues. On the Security Expert Server check that MSMQ is still enabled in Windows Features as this is now a requirement. If MSMQ was installed after Security Expert, you'd need to reinstall Security Expert to allow it to run correctly. If MSMQ is installed and controllers are still not coming online then anecdotal evidence suggests enabling Windows 8 Compatibility Mode may help. Set the Windows 8 Compatibility Mode checkbox in the Properties page for C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\Security Expert\SecurityExpertEvtSvr.exe.   Also, note that if you have imported a database backup, then you will need to check/change some other settings as well to ensure everything is set up for your specific server and controller.   Under Global > Download Server confirm that your computer name is the name of the PC where the download server service is running. Under Global > Event Servers ensure that the computer name is the name of the PC where the event server service is running. Under Sites > Controllers confirm the Serial number, IP Address, Download Port, Download Server and Control and Status Request Port match what is set in the controller's configuration web page (browse to the controllers IP Address to view). On that same General tab go to Diagnostic Windows and open the download and event server windows. Review the information contained and if there are any errors shown. Right click the controller and select Get Health Status. Review the status messages displayed.

Configuring Contact Id reporting service

Issue Require instructions on how to set up and troubleshoot a Contact Id reporting service. Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Client SP-C-WEB Contact Id Reporting Service Cause Basic information on configuring reporting services is documented in the Security Expert Operator Manual and SP-C-WEB Programming Reference but these do not contain practical steps on configuring this specifically for Contact Id reporting. Resolution The Contact ID Service is used to send alarms, tests, and events using the Contact ID reporting format to a monitoring station capable of receiving the Contact ID format.   The following steps can be used to configure a basic setup of Contact Id. Note that a modem will be required and that once the service has been configured it needs to be started before it will begin to work. The service's status can be viewed in the controllers' Health Status Window and modem events can be logged in the events window for troubleshooting.   Go to Programming > Phone Numbers. Add your phone numbers, usually primary and backup. Go to Programming > Services. Add a new service, set Service Type to Contact Id. Set Service Mode to 1 - Start With controller OS. Configure the Client code, phone numbers. Select required report options. Note: Log Modem Events to Event Buffer option will log all events. Only use this for troubleshooting. Go to Areas and assign the Service to Areas requiring this. Add this to Area > Configuration tab, Reporting Services section. Go back to Services, right-click the service record, and select Start Service. Without doing this the service will not be running. It needs to be manually started the first time. Can also check the controller Health Status to see the status of your service if it is started or stopped. When done configuring your services, inputs, and Areas. Go to Reports > Central Station Report. Select the Reporting Service and the output directory to generate the file. Click Generate and a CSV and HTML file will be generated. This report can be provided to the central station for their database. The HTML version is the easiest to read.   Further details on the Contact ID reporting format and outlines of the reporting and mapping options can be found in the AN 316 Security Expert - Contact ID Reporting in Security Expert and SP-CWEB - Integration Guide application note.

Events are not showing or being logged.

Issue Controllers are online but events are not being logged. No live event updates are showing in the All Events Status Page or being logged to the SecurityExpertEvents database. Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Client Cause Below is a list of the current causes that may contribute to the issues described: The Event Server settings are not configured correctly. The Firewall is blocking required communications ports. The default Save Events action has been removed. The All Events event filter has an Event Type or Record Filter attached to it which is filtering out events. Resolution For Cause 1 Confirm that the Download Server, Event Server, and Controllers are configured correctly. Check all of the items in this Troubleshoot Security Expert Controllers showing offline article. For Cause 2 Check that any Firewalls are disabled or setup to allow all required ports through. See SX-SRVR Networking Guide for Administrators for further details. Also, confirm that any Anti Virus software is also not blocking required ports or Security Expert applications. For Cause 3 In Security Expert go to Events > Actions and confirm that there is a Save Events action configured for the Site. The action will look like what is shown below and can be manually created if it is not present. Figure 1 - Save Events Action For Cause 4 Ensure that the Status Page view being used is able to see those events and is not filtered in any way. Under Events > Event Filters check that the All Events Event Filter is not filtered and it is set to show all events and records. By default, this is not filtered and not able to be changed. On the Event Types tab ensure "Include All Event Types" is selected. Figure 2 - Event Filter Event Types On the Records tab ensure there is no record filter attached. Figure 3 - Event Filter - Records Then check that the All Events event report is using the All Events filter for All Record Groups.  Figure 5 - Event Reports All Events Note that a fix for the database is available.  Please contact your local support to verify and provide a fix for this issue.

How to trigger an output when intercom is making a call

Issue Require a relay contact to close when an intercom call is being made. The relay is then wired to an information display with displays to alert personnel of the incoming call.  Product Line EcoStruxure Security Expert Environment Security Expert SX-IPI, SX-IPI-C Cause Require visual notification of incoming calls viewable by operators not currently at the monitoring desk. Resolution In the SP-IPI-C configuration settings, there are a number of options in the "Call State Trigger" setting that can be used to trigger the onboard output during certain conditions. One of these is when the intercom is making a call.  Under Security Settings, there is an option titled Alert Trigger Setting where the call state can trigger the output. Alert Trigger Setting Call State Trigger: enables the output to be triggered by the call state of the Intercom. The output triggers when the call state matches the selected state.   Enable the Call State Trigger and set the value to Calling or Ringing depending on if the SX-IPI-C is making or receiving the call. Call State Trigger Wire the output relay into the SX-IPI-C input. Register the input with Security Expert. See details starting at the Adding the Expander Setup in the Security Expert system section in the SX-IPI-C IP Intercom with Camera Installation Manual. In Security Expert, configure the input to trigger an alarm which in turn will trigger an output. Create an Event Filter and add the following event type to it. Input <ZONE_NAME> Opened Create an Alarm add the Event Filter to it. Create an Area If you want a common output that triggers when any object alarms in that area then set the Alarm Output fields on the Outputs tab. If instead, you want the output tied to the Input Type or individual Inputs then go to the next step. In your Input on the Areas and Input Types tab add your Area to Area 1 field and set the Input Type 1 to Instant. In the options enable Log to Event Buffer so we can see the activations. If a common output for all inputs of the Input Type then; On the Options (2) tab enable the Activate Control Output On Alarm and Deactivate Control Output On Restore options. On the Configuration tab set the Control Output to the output you want to trigger. Else if each input has a separate output then; On the Options (3) tab enable the Activate Input Control Output On Alarm and Deactivate Input Control Output On Restore.
