Unable to bring Suprema Biometric Reader online in Security Expert

Issue

Suprema Biometric Reader has been installed and configured correctly but is offline in Security Expert.

  • Reader was successfully connected to and configured with the Biostar software, removed from the Biostar software and then added to Security Expert.
  • IP port is configured properly in Security Expert.
  • Security Expert Download service is running properly and has also been restarted after configuring the Suprema reader in Security Expert.

Cause

After deleting the Reader from the Biostar software, the reader may keep its connection if there have been no Users enrolled with the reader in Security Expert.

The Suprema Biometric Reader can only support one open IP connection at a time and since it is still connected to the Biostar software it is unable to communicate with Security Expert.

Resolution

Create a User in Security Expert and enroll a finger. This will drop the connection between the reader and the Biostar software to allow it to come online in Security Expert.
