Regarding the unit display of the ION9000 monitor

Hello,

I need advice on the unit notation for Ion9000 monitors.

Ia and I4 are written in "kA" notation, while Ib and Ic are written in "A" notation.

I would like to know what the units of "kA" and "A" change based on.

Other meters have been pointed out by customers as well, with some units showing "kA" and others showing "A" when the current is less than 100A.

The CT settings are as follows.

Primary : 5000A

Secondary : 5A

Best regards,

Miyai

Re: Regarding the unit display of the ION9000 monitor

Hello Miyai,

I can confirm that like Tomohiro-Okada said, if meter is configured to display kA, either as default setting or display module is set to kA, and the meter measures some current however the display resolution is too small to show, the meter will generate an event and automatically switch units to display A rather than kA. Event text will be something like "Current display value out of range. Reducing scaling)

If resolution is 1.x, and the value to display is less than 0.1kA, units will switch to A. If resolution is 1.xx and the display value is less than 0.01kA, units will switch to A.

Charles

Re: Regarding the unit display of the ION9000 monitor

Hi,

firstly install ION SETUP https://www.se.com/ww/en/product-range/61461-ion-setup/

connect device with advanced setup parameter and open Display option modules, change default Amper to "A" and send to meter this changed,

Re: Regarding the unit display of the ION9000 monitor

Hello @Miyai ,

I moved your question to the metering forum.
For the ION9000 meter there is concept of Autoscale based on the PT and CT settings. For current, if the CT Primary < 1000, units will default to "A", 1000< CT Primary < 999 999, units will default to "kA" . This can also be overwritten with the display setup register as mentioned already.

Charles

Re: Regarding the unit display of the ION9000 monitor

Hello @Charles_Murison , @huseyinb

Thank you for advise.

I have checked the Ion setup and I have two questions.

(1) When ”Display option modules” was changed, the 3 phases (Ia, Ib and Ic) were changed all together.

However, in this case, Ia is "kA" and Ib and Ic are "A". Do you know why this is? Could it be a glitch?

(2) Is the meter's factory default setting for Display option modules set to "Default"?

The customer who set up this meter is changing the settings on the monitor.

Therefore, customers are not using Ion setup.

Best regards,

Miyai

Re: Regarding the unit display of the ION9000 monitor

Hello @Miyai ,

I will say I have not seen that before but recommend working with technical support (se.com ->support ->contact support) for troubleshooting. Would be good to know what is getting feed into the data mapping module (see modus map document). In ION Setup if you hold down shift and click on inputs tab you will see a snapshot of the real time values.

Charles

Hello @Charles_Murison

Thank you for advise.

I'll try contacting tech support.

However, it is difficult to connect with ION setup as I have already left the meter.

Best regards,

Miyai

Re: Regarding the unit display of the ION9000 monitor

Hi Charles,

I did some verification on this with ION9000 meter.

(CT setting  is 5000:1000A, Current Resolution setting is 1.XXX)

At first the display unit of current is "kA" as you said, because CT primary setting is over 1000A.

Then, I applied 0.200A current by using current generator (It means the meter displays 0.001kA.)

and ION9000 meter displays "0.001kA" correctly.

Next, I reduced the current input gradually and the display unit turns from "kA" to "A".

After that I did further testing and found the following.

When the input current to the meter is 0.000A on the primary side,

the display unit of current is "kA".

When the input current to the meter is 0.001-0.999A on the primary side,

the display unit of current turns from "kA" to "A".

When the input current to the meter is over 1.000A on the primary side,

the display unit of current is "kA".

I think it is for preventing from electric shock.

(In this case, if input current of primary side is 0.100A and the meter keeps displaying current by using "kA",

user of the meter misunderstand there is no current on the circuit.)

Is my understanding correct?

Regards,

Okada

Re: Regarding the unit display of the ION9000 monitor

Hello @Charles_Murison

Sorry for late reply.

At the end of last year, I verified with ION9000 and verified the same content as your advise.

It has already been answered to the customer.

Thank you for your support.

Best regards,

Miyai
