P;ease guide how the new standard IEC 61439 different from IEC 60439 in terms of safety features of the Panel?

Its now more than 10+ years since the launch of IEC61439 series.The following aspects are addressed more effectively in IEC61439 when compared to its predecessor IEC60439:

 

  1. The number of mechanical operating cycles for main contacts and other parts has been increased to 200.
  2. For thermal evaluation - Verification by calculation is limited to a 630A for single compartments & upto 1600A for multiple compartments.
  3. The rated diversity factor is more clearly described, with each circuit requiring a defined rating.
  4. Neutral cross section is raised to a minimum of 50% of phase cross section, valid for PEN conductors too.
  5. Clearance verification by design may be applied utilizing a ‘safety factor’ of 50%.
  6. Shared responsibility between Original Manufacturer vs. ASSEMBLY Manufacturer.
  7. Agreements between Customer and Manufacturer are more detailed and extended.
  8. Concept of Type Testing & Partially Type Testing are replaced by Design Verification.
  9. Routine Tests are replaced by Routine Verification.
  10. Design verification is classified in to 2 categories namely:
    • Constructional Requirement
    • Performance Requirement

 

    11. All constructional requirements are mandatory and to be design verified by testing.

    12. Many new technical terminologies are being introduced namely - Rated Current of an Assembly, Rated Current of a

          Circuit, Group Rated Current of a circuit, Design Current etc
