I was on a site yesterday where we have recently installed a number of PM8000 meters, and I discovered something that I didn't know about
There are a couple of modules that will give you a Sag and Swell alarm on Current, based on a nominal value within the framework of the meters
This nominal value is set to 10Amps, and in my case I got several thousand alarms from the 5 meters in a week!
This obviously fills the database very quickly, mine was growing at a stupid rate, as the meters were reporting this alarm several times a second!!
To get around this search for the sag/swell module, and on the same page there are two new modules called current sag and current swell.
These can either be set up to suit, or in my case disabled due to the nature of the load.
I wonder if these could be set to disabled out of the factory, rather than enabled.
There is a another way to deal with unwanted alarms.
Go to your meter's Display, access the Setup menu and select Alarm.
Scroll down to the current sag/swell alarms, select the first one and click the gear icon. Press the two center buttons to disable.
**This disables the module and its functions. If you want to still have the module operate, but without making an alarm, go to ION Setup and select Alarming.
Set the priority to None, that means the alarm will not be displayed nor will it show up in the event log.

Configuring your alarms using ION Setup is described on pages 126 through 129, including modifying nominal values and configuring setpoint and sag/swell learning.

Thanks for the above, however I'm also on a site with around 100 of these meters and when you walk to a switchroom, all are flashing in alarm state which you can imagine customers are not happy about. It's not practical to have to change each individual alarm on the meter display or ION setup due to the time that would take.
Could a firmware update be released to resolve this unwanted feature? The user can always configure the alarms they actually want at a later date.
Yes, I can guess that is not a desirable instance. And although certainly you could fix the framework on one device and then paste it to the other meters, that isn't an ideal large-scale solution either. For firmware requests, I recommend contacting Daniel Brandao as the offer manager for the PM8000, and I have sent him the link to this conversation thread.
We have the same issue that is why we raised this topic\\What is Current Sag/Swell and its application? . What we have done is to disable this feature on the meters individually so it will not flood the database with undesired records. We would certainly suggest that this feature be disabled by default.
I had another occurence of this yesterday, my waveformlog2 table in the database was 45,414,104 rows!
Most customers are going to install these meters without looking at the alarm setup, so having this alarm enabled by default is in my opinion the wrong way to do it.
This caused the customer database to fill the disk it was on, and because the server was only sized for 14 devices, I have nowhere to put a log file that will grow to the same size as the database when I try to trim or archive these records.
The biggest drive is 199GB the databse, due to the alarms is 180GB, and the next biggest drive is only 19.99GB.
All of this has been caused by only 4 PM8000 meters, I would not like to think what this would do to a system with 200!
I have another one for you, the same site again, this time the nominal voltage out of the box is set to 120, the meter is on a system that is 11,000V, I get hundreds, if not thousands of waveforms caused by the voltage swell alarm.
Can this also be disabled by default??
