ION9000 with no Nominal voltage configured

Hi, All,

I  need some confirmation for following enquiries

  • If the ION9000 has no nominal voltage and nominal frequency set up (e.g nominal voltage = 0), also, meter internal clock has not be configured, when a voltage spike event happened, will the meter capture any events?
  • When a voltage spike event happens, what information will the meter provide if there is only CT ratio configured in the meter.
  • Can we use ION Setup to get the power quality events (Sag/Swell/Transient, Comtrade waveforms), disturbance direction detection as well as the 1ms data logging?

Thanks

James R

Re: ION9000 with no Nominal voltage configured

  • On the ION9000, the nominal voltage is configured in the factory module as "FAC1 Vnominal" (factory default = 120V), while the nominal frequency is configured from the power meter module as "PM1 Nominal Frequency" (factory default = 60Hz).
    • Neither can be set to 0.
    • Power quality alarms that rely on these settings to be configured correctly are disabled by default in the default frameworks.
    • Additionally, the nominal frequency setting affects the harmonic bandwidth (as prescribed in IEC61000-4-30) as well as the default sampling rates used by the meter when line frequency is out of range.
    • Other than the timezone (used for displaying timestamps, but not for storing them), the clock defaults are of little consequence in the context of this question.
  • Both the CT and PT ratios are factory default to 1:1. They affect the scaling of relative current, voltage, power, and energy readings.
    • If the PT ratio mis-configured with the defaults, all voltage, power, and energy readings would need to be post-scaled to read correctly
  • Yes, ION Setup can be configured to read all the data available over ION protocol.

Re: ION9000 with no Nominal voltage configured

Hello James,

If the nominal voltage is 0, the sag/swell module is turned off, any events one would expect from the sag/swell module will not be exposed to the meter’s framework including the event log and waveform recorders. The frequency setting does have some significance when the meter checks the half cycle RMS value but in of itself would not prevent the meter from detecting an event. The clock setting would also not prevent the recording of an event, the timestamp logged in the meter may not exactly match the time the event happened.

The sag/swell module is off and not able to feed any information like sag/swell durations or magnitudes nor trigger waveform recordings nor does the module write any information to the vent log.

Assuming the meter is configured, yes ION Setup can be used to get information from the meter. If the default settings in ION Setup does not include all the data desired, it is possible to augment the configuration. The event details, waveforms,  disturbance direction detection as well as the 1ms data logging are all available with the default configuration.

Thank you,

Charles
