The current TOU functionality in the PM8000 is pretty robust but doesn't meet the needs of every market. Is it possible to use the TOU module in PM8000 as a custom framework to either replace or enhance the existing TOU capabilities in the meter?

The TOU schedule is highly configurable on the PM8000 (and other ION meters that support the TOU ION module). I would encourage you to review the detailed description of the TOU Module in ION Reference, to see if it can be configured to meet the specific application you have in mind. Here is a link:
From the basic description you gave, it sounds like there is a need to use a different rate schedule on Fridays, compared to other days of the week. One possible approach would be to use the "Alt 1 Days" and "Alt 1 Rates" setup registers to specify an alternative rate schedule that applies to all Fridays. This is similar to the example given in ION Reference which says:
"Alt 1 Days
This register defines a set of alternative dates for all seasons. These dates
generally have different rates from weekdays, weekends, or holidays (for example,
a company with a less expensive rate every Thursday). The rates in the Season 1-
4 Alt 1 Rates setup registers are used on these days."
You will need to assess the specifics of the application against the capabilities of the module, but given the configurability I expect a solution will likely be possible. Some advanced configuration of the ION framework will be needed though, to make use of the additional rate information in measuring the relevant parameters.

I think the TOU on ION meter is very flexible enough try to understand it well. In Thailand we can put holidays according to Lunar calendar which is updated every two years. If you think it not flexible enough you can use Friday status to control the Scheduler module as well.
