Identifying Security Expert Smart Card Readers

Product Line

Environment

Security Expert Smart Card Readers

Cause

Security Expert Smart Card Readers options such as the MIFARE Reading Mode and LED color etc. can be configured. Older readers can be configured using a USB-RS485 converter and a serial terminal program such as HyperTerminal. Newer readers requires a configuration card (requires purchase) to configure the options in the reader.

Resolution

Readers with firmware 64 can be configured using a USB-RS485 converter and serial terminal program.

Readers with firmware number higher than 64 require the configuration card to configure the options.

It is not possible to identify a reader's firmware from its serial number. The serial numbers are randomly generated and selected in no order. To find out a reader's firmware from its serial number, send an email to Product Support with the serial number(s).
