A few years ago I read about a company that had a lighting system that was designed for open offices / cubicals. Overhead lighting fixture locations were coordinated with the cubical locations. The cubical occupant had an icon on his desktop that allowed him to dim the light(s) that served his cubical. There was even an occupancy sensor that would even dim the light further or off all together.
A very large defense contractor headquartered in Massachusetts installed the system in one or two of their office facilities and saved a lot of kwh and reduced their demand. The local AEE Chapter gave them an award for the energy savings idea.
With all the technology Schneider Electric has within its walls, it would be great to be able to offer something similar where the icon would open a window on your desktop with a virtual slide swich to dim and control your light. In the background it would go through a customers network to our control network to a DALI lighting ballast or dimmable ballast that will take a 0-10Vdc input from lets say a VAV controller or Clipsal controller.
