Unit assumed to be out of warranty... maybe 4 yrs old.
Two issues. first, it's making occasional loud grinding noises... sounds like a bad fan motor or something.
Second, It keeps going into overload... even when nothing is plugged into it. Tried in multiple outlets to make sure not a local electrical issue.
I tried unplugging the unit and holding the power button until the long beep then releasing, but it doesn't go into overload then... just goes into battery mode.
I tried replacing the batteries, but had the same problem... overload light came on. Is this just because new batteries weren't properly charged?

We can't be sure exactly what's causing the grinding noise but type of noise is never normal. The overload issue is most likely related as well(has nothing to do with batteries). Unfortunately, the only thing we can recommend is a trade ups(assuming you are out of warranty as you said)
