Have just acquired a Smart-UPS 1500VA USB & Serial 230V
Am new to UPS and need some kind and much appreciated advice please ...
Is it OK to connect a scanner to the UPS ? Or do they draw too much power ? (in addition to my Mac + Monitor + Ext Hard Drives).
Also I am on OSX Tiger 10.4.11 and have decided not to even attempt to use any power management software !
Thank you 🙂

this UPS can support up to 980 watts. scanners and laser printers can sometimes overload the UPS because they draw a lot of wattage when they warm up. so if possible, APC recommends that you not plug the scanner into the UPS for such reason. you may overload the UPS when turning on the scanner, especially with all of your other equipment connected and turned on.
if you can find the max power draw on the scanner and it is very small and you also do that for your other items, then you can certainly plug it in if its under the 980 watts max for the UPS. the manufacturers should be able to tell you the max inrush current for the device.

Thank you for your much appreciated reply & expertise 🙂
I will leave the scanner out of the UPS setup !
