Has anyone had experience using ViewX to connect to two different databases (servers) and managed to maintain only one set of User Account details?
If so where and how do you house those details such that they are always available even if you lose connectivity to one of the databases? Security has to be maintained at all times obviously, which requires server access to user details.
I would appreciate input if someone has done this or alternatively some ideas on how to best handle it if not.
This isn't really possible, the user needs to exist on the database you're trying to log in to.
That said, the creation aspect can be automated using Windows Authentication and configuring User Patterns.
Have a read of Help at System Administration > Security > User Accounts > Create User Accounts from a User Pattern.
If you have a user domain server set up, integrating LDAP should at least let you manage password changes.
Not speaking for experience here I know nothing about Domain servers or setting up LDAP in ClearSCADA.
@geoffpatton You haven't used the Windows AD authentication yet? It's something that they really have gotten right 🙂
You really just tick the box in the server settings, enter the AD domain, and it generally 'just works' (assuming the server is already on the domain in question).
I'd very much recommend it.
