Netbotz 250 Wireless setup with 2 x USB Coordinator & Router

This question was originally posted on DCIM Support by Patricio Ernesto Infante Pinedo on 2018-12-20

Dear.

I´m working on a Netbotz 250 with 6 wireless T° sensors + 4 wireless T°/H sensors + 2 NBWC100U coordinator/router acting as a Router in a Datacenter with no more than 25 meters from Netbotz Coordinator to last wireless device (2 NBWC100U routers between).

I was experimenting poor signal from devices, so maybe I need to understand a little more about NBWC100U use and configuration.
The manual Indicates that extended adress of the Router device need to be list in user interface, this means that I need to declare MAC address of NBWC100U in Wireless Sensor Commission List on Netbotz 250? or in a "Auto Join" session the coordinator must recognize them?

Firmware for all devices is the last: 6.6.4 for Netbotz, 1.04 for Coordinator/routers and 1.0.6 for wireless T/H devices.

Thanks in advance and regards!

Hi Patricio,

Yes, the second NBWC100U has a mac address that should either auto-populate using the auto-join function or you should be able to add it manually. Please be sure that it is powered by a UPS or other power supply that does not lose power. Also note that a second NBWC100U can not be connected directly to the 250 (or any other 250). It must be placed elsewhere in the room with the intention of extending the range.

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks a lot Steve.

I declared the 2 USB routers in the list and was reset all sensors and the signal gone good (all over 65%), but after a week operating with good signal, 4 or 5 sensor lost signal spontaneously and only one was recover after 18 hours.

Customer has problems with this and I need guidance to see how to solve it definitively (maybe more routers?).
Please, any recomendation is welcome.
Thanks in advance and regards!

Hi Patricio,

It may be more routers, it may be less distance. If you can find a USB extension (Not a repeater!) cable, perhaps raising the coordinator to the top of the rack might help as well.

Looking at your graph, I'm seeing most RSSI numbers above 60, then all of a sudden, they drop to the 20s and 30s. I wouldn't trust anything below 50 on average. What exactly is happening at this time? Was everything set up and then moved? Did the data center all of a sudden become active? Do you know if there is a lot of other wireless activity in the area? Are there a lot of fiber communications? Do you have an idea of the distances etc from the device...maybe a map to give an idea what the environment looks like with the sensor placement.

Thanks Steve.
I will work with customer to see if there any change in DC related with the time that the sensors was lost his signal intensity.
Also, I will try with USB cable extender to top the coordinator over de rack to see wath happen.
This is the plant of datacenter, the red points is the position of routers.
Thanks again and regards!

Hi Patricio,

So the appliance itself is in the top left corner? I'm not sure of the distances here but I'm pretty sure the communications would be much better if the 250 could be somewhere in the middle of the wireless environment...basically in the middle of the picture. You may still want to look at a few more routers.

Thanks a lot Steven.

I was used an USB extension cables to move the coordinator and routers at the top of the room (ceiling level).

Signal got good (all sensors and routers over 70% of signal).

I hope this will solve the sporadic signal drop, I will comment you about.

regards!
