Lost Communcation Alert

I upgraded a network management card to v6.8.2, Struxureware is showing a lost comm alert for this device.  I can, however remote to it in struxureware and view the card just fine.  I've tried resetting the card and rebooting the struxureware server to no avail.

Hi!

Did you check SNMP settings on NMC? Maybe you use specific community string or port that was changed to default during upgrade?

SNMPv1 had gotten disabled at some point in the firmware upgrade, turning that back on resolved the issue.

Can you tell us what version of firmware was on the device prior to upgrading and what device as Bala had asked? We'd like to try to reproduce if possible.

Hi Todd,  do you happen to know which revision of firmware you were using prior to upgrade?

Did this happen on one device or multiple devices?  If multiple, were all devices the same type or did they vary?

The 6.8.2 upgrade contains changes pertaining to insecure protocols being disabled by default, one of which being SNMP.  However, these changes should not affect existing installations (only if you reset a device to default or you receive a new product which has shipped with version 6.8.2 or higher), so if you were doing a basic firmware upgrade, I would not expect any sort of loss of communication. 

Any additional information you can share would be greatly appreciated.

using V.6.6.4 prior.  I upgraded the card on a 1500 series ups and it didn't reset that snmp settings, just on the 5000.   I haven't tried upgrading our other 5000s yet to see if it was just a one off issue. It very well could've been due to a reset of the card.  I will install on another 5000 and test.

upgraded firmware on another 5000, it did retain current settings.  looks like a one off issue.  i was troubleshooting a temperature sensor issue prior, so the card may have done a reset.

Hi Todd,  okay, good to hear that the 1500 one worked.  The reset on the card would be a reset to default settings, is that something you would have been trying to do?  Hope the next 5000 works okay, if it does not please let me know.  Running version 6.6.4 I wouldn't expect any issues so I would like to make sure that there is nothing possibly causing an unexpected reset which would cause SNMP to go disabled.

Dear Todd, Did you upgrade your NMC to version 6.8.2 through DCE--Updates-Apply Firmware update?

May I know the product model number in which this NMC is installed? Is it rPDU, or UPS?

Did you reset the card to factory defaults or just rebooted the NMC management interface?

In case If the card was reset to factory defaults, then please check if you are using SNMP version 1 and SNMP version 3 in DCE to communicate with the NMC.

Please check if SNMP version 1 is enabled and its community string name on NMC web interface

If disabled, DCE will show loss of communication if SNMP version 1 is used to communicate with NMC and if community string name is not matching. 

Can you share us the config.ini file of NMC? Current SNMP settings being used to communicate with DCE.
