DCE can post reports to a windows server or to an FTP server. It does not post .xls or any other Excel specific formatted files, it can post delimited text files which can be opened in Excel.
If you want to update an existing file on your computer, you'll need to poll the device directly using SNMP and edit the Excel file yourself. You can also poll the DCE server using the web API and again update your file using your code. The third option is to use the report export feature and again create your own code to pull data from that file and update your Excel file.

Not exactly. First you have to create a report. Choose the reports perspective, temperature, and generate report:
Choose a relative range such as the last 24 hours and a summary or table format depending on what exactly you're looking for. Choose the device group(s) and the specific sensors you're looking for:
If you're looking for one day's data, always use relative range as if you choose a specific date, that date's data will always be reported. Run the report and once you've verified it's what you want to see, save that report:
If you now go to reports–>manage export scheduling:
you can see the report you just made:
Choose export action configuration.
Here you can add an export such as a windows export.
Once finished creating the export type, select the report and edit the criteria:
Enable the export. Choose the export you created in the previous step, (no Excel option) choose the appropriate delimiter choose a locale, and schedule it for a specific day or all days.
