Performing a manual license registration

Issue Activation of the Security Expert SSN with a new installation of the client software, software extensions (e.g. SX-VIM, SX-DOR-50) and integration licenses (e.g. SX-NVR, SX-CAM-10) need to be completed manually because there is no Internet access.  Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Cause The computer Security Expert client is installed on does not have Internet access to use the automatic license update. The manual method must be used to register and obtain the new license. Resolution How to manually register a Security Expert licence: In the Security Expert client go to About | License | License Update and generate a .req request file. Copy this file to a machine that does have Internet access. Navigate to https://se.ict.co/license/ Enter your details on this web page. Upload the .req file and click Submit. You should then be able to download a .lic file. Back in Security Expert, browse to your .lic file from the licencing page. After applying the license you will need to shut down the client, restart the services, and then start up the client again. Supported Versions: v4.2.194 - Manual activation is supported. v4.2.216 - Manual license activation's are no longer supported and an Internet connection is required on the Security Expert installation to be able to perform a new activation or update a license. v4.2.243 - Manual activation is supported. v4.3.x - Manual activation is supported.

Upgrading SecureStruxure to Security Expert

Issue A previous version of the client software badged SecureStruxure is installed, and needs to be upgraded to Security Expert. Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert SecureStruxure Cause The offer had the name changed between versions, and it's not straight forward to update the software. Resolution SecureStruxure can be upgraded to Security Expert by following these steps: Contact Product Support to upgrade the site license to Security Expert.. Backup the SecureStruxureOperations and SecureStruxureOperationsEvents databases via SQL Server Management Studio. Uninstall SecureStruxure. Rename the SecureStruxureOperations and SecureStruxureOperationsEvents databases to SecurityExpert and SecurityExpertEvents When you run the Security Expert installer, use the new Security Expert SSN. You will need to point Security Expert at the MS SQL database instance you were previously using for SecureStruxure (this is likely "localhost\SECURESTRUXURE"). The installation wizard should pick up the databases and upgrade them, retaining all the SecureStruxure programming. Log into the UI and re-license the software. If you are unable to connect to the license server (no internet connection), you can use the manual method for registering a license.

Security Expert Smart Card Reader is unable to read a card.

Issue There is no indication that a card has been read when being presented at a Security Expert Smart Card Reader. Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Security Expert Smart Card Reader (SX-DRD-??, SX-DRK-??, SX-RD-??, SX-RK-??) Cause Reader is configured but there is no LED activity or beep when a card is presented at the reader. Resolution If the Security Expert Smart Card Reader does not blink or beep then the reader is not able to read the card due to one of the following reasons. Wrong technology, eg trying to read a 125khz card on a 13.56mhz reader will not work and vice versa The card is encoded with a proprietary format/encryption The card is encrypted and the encryption keys are not programmed into the reader (note that this is different from the above, there are many scenarios where cards are encrypted but not proprietary and therefore if the encryption keys are programmed into the reader it can be read) If you get a single beep/short flash of the reader ports reader LED but no event/data in Security Expert it means that the reader can read the card but the format at the reader port is not able to correctly interpret the data which is why no events are being logged. Another format should be selected from the Reader Format list to suit the card type, if no suitable format exists in the list a custom format must be created.

When using an SQL Server CAL licensing model, which parts of the Security Expert system will require Microsoft SQL device CAL's?

Issue With Microsoft's new licensing model there is uncertainty around which parts of a Security Expert system need to allow for addition device CAL's for SQL Server. Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Microsoft SQL Server Cause Unclear documentation. Resolution Security Expert Controllers do not talk to the SQL Server, are not a client on SQL and do not require a CAL.The Controllers talk to the Security Expert Software, not SQL or the OS. A card holding user who is NOT a Security Expert Operator will not require a CAL. The Controller and any attached equipment are NOT a user in SQL, they do not inject or operate queries against it, so a CAL is not required. A CAL would be required for a Windows user to log into their Windows user account, and the Security Expert client would connect to the Server using the CAL associated with the Windows user account.

Card Printers supported with Security Expert

Issue What third party Card Printers are supported for use with Security Expert? Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Client Third-party Card Printers Cause There is no list of supported printers as there are too many devices to test.  Some testing has been done as listed in the resolution below.  If an issue should come up with a card printer then raise a support case and they will assist where possible and offer suggestions regarding the update of printer drivers, windows and printer preferences, etc. If necessary and the customer cannot resolve an issue then they may wish to supply the particular printer for testing and validation. Resolution There is currently no list of supported Card Printers, the following two printers have been tested by Engineering  with Security Expert: Datacard SD260 Datacard CD800 Indications that the HID Fargo HDP8500 and Fargo DTC4500e also work with Security Expert. In general, if the card printer presents itself in Windows as an XPS printer, then the printer should work with the Security Expert Client. This may require a printer driver to be downloaded and installed from the printer manufacturer for the printer to show up in the "Printers and Scanners" list in Windows.

Configuring Security Expert Readers

Issue Configuring Security Expert Readers Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Smart Card Readers Cause Security Expert Smart Card Readers have options such as Mifare Reading Mode, LED colors, etc. that can be configured. How the readers are configured will depend on the reader's firmware. Resolution The method used to configure a Security Expert Smart Card Reader depends on the firmware version it is using. There is no way to visually determine the firmware version. To identify what firmware the reader was shipped with from the factory refer to Knowledge Base article Identifying Security Expert Smart Card Readers Firmware. 1. Smart Card Readers with firmware below build 200 - (I.e.  1.04.64) These are older readers which were configured with a serial terminal program by connecting to the reader using a USB-RS485 converter.  Please refer to the 'Installer Programming' section of the attached Smart Card Reader Installation Manual - Feb 2017. This has been replaced by a newer version of the manual on Exchange which no longer includes this information. 2. Smart Card Readers with firmware build 200 or above (I.e.  1.04.229) These newer readers do not have a serial interface and will require a configuration card to change reader options.            The configuration card (SX-ISO-CONFIG) is ordered from Schneider Electric, see the Security Expert Credentials Order Form for details.  Note:The configuration Card PRX-PROG-LF mentioned in the attached manual (Feb 2017) is obsolete was replaced by SX-ISO-CONFIG.

Changes to how Security Expert Evaluation Licenses are handled

Issue Security Expert Evaluation License is no longer working. New Evaluation License is not working. Product Line Security Expert Environment Security Expert Licensing Cause From July 2020 the policy for Security Expert Evaluation Licenses has changed. There is now a restriction where only one Evaluation License can be tied to a specific email address. If there have been more than one Evaluation License assigned to an email address, all but one of those licenses have been deleted and will no longer be usable.  Resolution Contact your local support channel with your known Evaluation License SSN's and email address to have the valid license identified. If the license period needs to be extended or transferred to a new machine this can also be accomplished, see Transferring Security Expert licenses from one PC to another Please note: Support cannot alter the registered email address.  A new Evaluation License Request will have to be made for each required license.

INET DPU/SCU Transition Architecture - Controller LAN

Issue Sales literature shows the use of NV202, are these the only supported device and are these provided by Schneider  Product Line TAC INET, Security Expert Environment Security Expert SP-C I/NET Access Control Hardware   Cause The NetSys NV202 product was sourced to provide a solution for a large I/NET Site that had multiple 7798B / 7798C controllers communicating back to a single Xenta 527.  As these I/NET Controller LAN devices only communicate via RS-485, a method of using this existing RS-485 cabling to support the SP-C Ethernet connection needed to be sourced.  Tests were carried out to see their performance, which is provided in the resolution below.  These devices are provided by NetSys and if necessary should be purchased directly through their distribution centers.  Documentation for this device is also provided on their website.  Resolution The following shows the tests, methods, and results performed with the NetSys NV-202 on a transition I/NET Database with over 25,000 users and over 5,000 doors. Testing and Validation of proposed NV-202 based RS485 Network Replacement Solution Test Equipment 49 Netsys NV-202 devices and power supplies 25 SP-C Controllers Security Expert Software 4.2.251.19 installation on a PC with the following specification: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz Installed RAM 16.0 GB 240m Belden 9842 Twisted Pair cable PLUS 50 Ohm resistances for line length simulation to an equivalent run length of 840m 100Mbps switch for interconnection of server PC and controller LAN Test Scenario 30 NV-202 units and in the following network topology. Figure 1: Test System Topology Method The Security Expert server was loaded with a database backup from an I/NET Transitioned Site, which was then modified to include: Connection to the SP-C’s on the IP range 192.168.1.200-192.168.1.224. by modifying existing real-world controller records to match (Database ID’s 149 onwards) Increasing the record load on each controller to the full set of users in the database (21,522) to be downloaded by adding an Access Level containing a door on each controller to each User A Status Page containing an All Events window All controllers were connected to the same 100Mbps switch as the test PC containing Security Expert The last controller in the daisy chain had one input wired into Relay 1 of the controller; this was used to validate input change timing. Download was forced to all controllers Timing for each required parameter (as noted in Figure 2) was measured using the final controller at the end of the cable run, having worst-case characteristics of bandwidth/latency due to maximum number of daisy-chained NV-202 devices Figure 2: Tested Timing Parameters Results Command Response Time Manual commands (by right-clicking and selecting ‘Unlock Door’) were performed on the first door programmed on the SP-C. 25 activations were run and the worst-case results selected. Command response time is less than 2 seconds as stipulated. See Wireshark capture: Figure 3: Packet capture of a Manual Door Unlock command to the worst-case SP-C from Security Expert Software Status Changes Response Time Relay 1 of the SP-C was activated, which is wired to Input 1 of the same SP-C in order to close the input and trigger a status change. 25 activations were run and the worst-case results selected. Status Change response is less than 1 second stipulated. Door Status Changes response time Manual commands (by right-clicking and selecting ‘Unlock Door’) were performed on the first door programmed on the SP-C. 25 activations were run and the worst-case results selected. Door status change response is less than 1 second stipulated. Retrieve access data or user’s data Not applicable. This data is stored in the server database. Generate any single ad-hoc reports Not applicable, reports are generated by the server using data from the server database. Multiple access control levels Not Applicable to this test - Security Expert can store unlimited Access Levels, and associate any of them to a given User. Access Level/User quantity limitations are not affected by the NV-202. EOD download time: A Force Download operation was performed on the SP-C, and the time to completion recorded. 25 activations were run and the worst-case results selected. Maximum download time: 58 seconds per controller (noting 21,522 Users) Time synchronization – maintain synchronism Time update packets are successfully sent, Server and controller time maintained within 1 second. Time synchronization – accuracy Not Applicable to this test – time is updated periodically (not constantly) so not significantly affected by bandwidth or latency.

Card format changes are ignored when using RS-485 Readers and RDM2 expander modules

Issue When trying to alter the Primary or Secondary card formats of Readers wired using RS-485 via RDM2s, any changes at the Server seem to have no effect whatsoever when the reader is then tested. Product Line Security Expert Environment Card Reader format configuration Cause A defect has been detected in RDM2 firmware version .505 whereby format changes made by users via the GUI are not applied to RS-485 wired readers.  Wiegand Readers are unaffected as are any readers wired directly into the SP-C Resolution A new RDM2 Firmware version .545 has now been released which resolves the issue entirely. The quickest and easiest way to upgrade this firmware however is actually to first upgrade the SP_C under which the RDM2s are located. Update the SP_C to .923 using the usual Controller Option. Select the correct Firmware .bin file and begin the upgrade (Ignore any Interrupt Error that may be produced). Check Module Addresses in Client to confirm new SP_C Firmware is now installed. Once the SP_C has been updated to .923, simply log onto that SP_C's own Web Browser. Then under the Application Software section there is a new update Module Software option where it is possible to select and update any RDM2 modules connected on that SP_C bus. Once again select the correct .bin file for the firmware and begin the upload. Note:  At the time of publication it is possible for an error to also appear at the end of the module upgrade, which suggests that it has not been successful (as seen earlier when updating the S_PC) Referring back to the Module Addressing page at the Client however, it should be possible to see that the RDM2 module has now updated to .545 and the system can now be retested.

Resolution Configure the ability to do this through the RS485 menu or with a configuration card.   Older readers (firmware version 64 or lower) use an RS485 interface to modify reader configuration. Newer readers (with the -BT part numbers) require a Configuration Card purchased from Schneider Electric in order to modify the factory configuration of the reader to read the Mifare CSN.
