Project Configuration Tool (PCT) fails to open on Schneider Electric computer, four “could not connect” error messages are shown

Issue PCT fails to open, presenting four 'could not connect' error messages.   Product Line Project Configuration Tool Environment Windows 10 version 1909 Windows 10 version 2004 Cause The cause maybe a firewall, scripts or group policy not allowing PCT to install correctly. IT2929 have a knowledge base article on the IT2929 system to help their representatives with this issue (KB0014074).   IT2929 will advise you to take a backup of your PCT projects, uninstall PCT and Oracle VM VirtualBox. IT2929 will then install the patch. Re-boot the laptop. Install PCT and Oracle VM VirtualBox (run as administrator). Restore your PCT projects. Re-boot the computer. If PCT still does not work after this, update the CCC case you have or create a new case with product support, providing your IT2929 KSR number is you do not have a case.

Size of PCT Project folder is increasing

Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support for assistance. Issue PCT project folder size increases when an object is deleted. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Project Configuration Tool, PCT Cause Any change made in PCT increases the size of PCT project folder. This is by design and it is a normal behavior of PCT. The reason for this is that a project is a virtual machine using a dynamically allocated image that grows when memory is needed, but the image will not shrink when something is deleted.  Resolution The only way to reduce the folder size of a project is to backup all servers in the project, create a new project, restore the server backups to the new project and then delete the old project.

PCT Error: "VBoxManager.exe: error: Nonexistent host networking interface", "Failed to open project."

Issue During certain situations, it may be required to switch from a hardwired to a wireless connection or wireless to hardwired. In addition, you may be required to replace a failed NIC card for a new variant that may or may not be the same in terms of connection type. Other more rare situations where a technician travels with a laptop that has PCT "SERVER" mode installed would also be affected. Example: PCT Version - 1.1.2.57 Server mode was set up on a physical server that has two NIC cards. The initial setup was performed on NIC1 and now we are required to utilize NIC 2 which is wireless as a temporary solution. NIC card 1 is disabled and NIC card 2 is set up with the same IP details as NIC card1. In addition, the wireless network is an extension of the original network that was configured in NIC card 1. The server then gets rebooted. Once the server is up you start PCT and attempt to open a project.   You receive the following errors: Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Windows Client versions (64 Bit Only) Windows Server versions (64 Bit Only) PCT SERVER versions (64 Bit OS Only ) SBO Project Configuration Tool All versions Cause During the initial setup of Project Configuration Server mode, you are prompted to select a network interface card from a list of available NICs. PCT requires that you continue to use the same interface and if you change your connection type at the windows level PCT has no method of knowing this and will not be able to connect to previously created projects. PCT will produce the following complaint as seen in the log below: "Nonexistent host networking interface" You can find the log path as follows: C:\ProgramData\Schneider Electric StruxureWare\Building Operation\Project Configuration Tool\loggermodule "ProjectsModule.log" Resolution There are two solutions to address this: Revert your connection type back to the original Network Interface Card. Reboot the machine. Open PCT and attempt to get back into the project. If the idea is to stick with a different NIC, you would simply need to reinstall PCT and select the new NIC during "SERVER" mode setup. Reboot the machine. Open PCT and attempt to get back into the project.

If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support for assistance. Issue PCT does not run properly following installation. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Project Configuration Tool (PCT) Cause Certain environmental settings may need to be adjusted in order to successfully install PCT. These settings are not described in the Project Configuration Reference Guide. Resolution If you have issues successfully running PCT after installation, check the following items: Enable Virtual Hardware Acceleration in BIOS Use this tool to check if virtual hardware acceleration is already enabled on your PC: Intel: https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/processors/processor-utilities-and-programs/intel-processor-identification-utility.html AMD: https://support.amd.com/en-us/search/utilities?k=virtualization Disable all Ethernet Adapters except the one in use (Only applies to Server Mode): It may be necessary to check Windows Device Manager for hidden network adapters Disable the Windows firewall Disable Anti-Virus Software A true local account may be needed to install and/or run PCT due to Group Policy or other factors. Recommendation for cores and memory setup for PCT

Issue PCT core and memory setup documentation does not exist Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Project Configuration Tool (PCT) Cause It is unclear what PCT core and memory settings should be configured for different kind of projects.     Resolution For optimal use, the minimum recommendation “Cores” should be limited to four (4), and have two (2) GB of “Memory” allocated Should you notice your CPU usage increase past 75%, the number of Cores can be increased as needed to help stabilize the system and maintain efficiency. Additional memory can be allocated for larger projects with many AS’s or multiple users working on the project at the same time. The amount of memory will be limited by the available memory on the machine, and the memory allocated to all the projects that are running.

Issue PCT utilizes a large volume of hard drive space when the backup limit is not set. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Building Operation Project Configuration Tool (PCT) Cause The virtual machine reserves additional hard drive volume each time a backup is created. Once this space has been allocated to the VM’s hard drive, it can not be reversed without deleting, recreating the project server then restoring the station from a backup.  (Once a VM grows, it cannot shrink.) Resolution The number of backups should be limited to a maximum of two (2).
