I've received a few requests for a link to purchase additional USB <--> RS-485 Cables. I purchase these FTDI cables through either Mouser or DigiKey; they both typically sell them for the same bargain price of $30 apiece. At that price, I definitely suggest making sure as many folks as possible are equipped with this handy tool. I've had to overnight these cables to a few jobsites, and it's been sad for me to consider that I'm spending the price of the cable on shipping alone.
If you're like Mike and me, you may even want to pick up a spare cable (as a loaner or so you can have one for connection to devices without the service port Molex connector).
I've also had great luck in using my cable to record Modbus traffic. You could also use it to record Infinet traffic for PSS (though they'll have to decode it on their end).
Happy Serial Capturing,
Another option for the cables is through the link below. Whats nice about the cable Jeff references is that it can plug directly onto the service port. Some of the controllers do not have service ports and a wire to wire setup is needed.
Additionally here is a lessons learned article that gives some step by step for mstp capture setup.
Hope the additional information helps,
