I have several ups units that were given to me, and I'd like to know if I can parallel connect the 7 ah battery in the ups to the 2 12v cranking batteries of my Ford truck, and use the ups as an inverter for ac appliances etc camping,on the road, power tools, whatever. My first post, so bare with me here. It just seems like a good idea. Has anyone done this?

I wouldn't recommend it. Hooking the truck's batteries in parallel with the UPS' internal battery is asking for trouble. Starting your truck could potentially draw way too much current from the small UPS battery and cause damage to it and possibly the UPS (Also, the charging voltage for flooded and sealed lead-acid batteries are a bit different). Also, what UPS units do you have? Different UPS models use different battery voltages (usually 12 or 24 volts).
As for the inverter idea, I know people who have used UPSes in this manner. Just be aware that most UPSes don't output a pure sine wave. This isn't a problem unless you're using sensitive electronics or motorized equipment.
