Using a APC NS 1250 (Model BN1250) on other electronics

Can I use this Back-Ups unit for a widescreen tv and DVR, etc? I bought a used one that seems to be working fine and have used a smaller unit for a computer and monitor but hesitate to use it for my TV, etc.

A sine wave moves smoothly up and down, but the cheaper UPS models output a 'modified sine wave' which basically has zero volts, a step of positive voltage, zero volts, a step of negative voltage, and so on. This is done to minimize 'harmonic frequencies' which would otherwise cause energy to be wasted as heat, while keeping the total cost (and weight) of the UPS low.

Thanks for your response to my question - Now I'll go and find out what "step approximation to a sine wave" means but I feel better about trying it.
