Time on system clock changes when power goes off

This was originally posted on APC forums on 8/3/2011

I have an APC Backup-UPS ES-550. Powerchute PE 2.0. When ever power goes off, the computer retains the time that it was just before the system shutoff. I changed the BIOS. I reloaded the operating system. The time was fine for three weeks. Then power went off. The time then began to change again.

No the time on the PC dropped. No matter how I change the clock back on the PC, after a while it changed again. This only starts when the power when the power went off.

Hi Bertram,

Are you talking about the Estimated Runtime that the software provides?

Runtime do change depending on the age of the battery, the number of times it has switched to battery, environmental conditions like temperature, load etc. As the battery gets old, the runtime will also be affected.

If this is not what you've meant on your post, please do provide a detailed explanation of the problem.

How old is your PC? It sounds like the battery backing up the real-time clock needs to be replaced. Alternatively (and I do this with my computers), you could enable synching with an internet time server to keep your clocks accurate.

I have changed by CMOS battery and also reloaded to OS and the APC Powerchute software. My time was fine for a few weeks until the power went off and the APC Powerchute apps sent my system into hibernation. Since that, my PC's time is off. I checked the time sync. It is set to synchronize with the Internet.

This is very strange.
