We have been donated one of these. It hasn't been in use for some time and I'm guessing the batteries are totally flat. When we plug it in there are no lights or beeps at all.
Even with flat batteries, shouldn't we get some sort of power on indication on the front panel? There is absolutely nothing. Tried pressing and holding the buttons but nothing happens.

Hi Rick. If you check the model number from the white sticker on the back of the unit and find it starts with "SURT" then this unit will require good batteries to power up on.
Hi David. It is a "SURT" model.
So that indicates either ALL of the batteries have had it, or the unit itself is faulty.
I don't want to have to go and buy a whole new set of batteries costing many hundreds of dollars just to test if the unit works at all. What is the minimum I can use to test it?
I'm sorry Rick. With these older style designs, they require DC power to start up. Were you provided any information about this unit from the original owner? If you have the serial number I can see if there is any service history on it.
No, I have no information about the unit.
Serial Numbers are attached.
I guess what I’d like to know is if I buy new batteries for one module (the basic UPS holds 4 battery modules and the extra battery unit holds 4 more), can I just start it up on that to test that it starts up?
You would just need the modules for the main UPS and disconnect the external battery pack. That would start it up. The UPS is 17 years old. This is very old for this type of unit. This is something to keep in mind if you are considering investing any money into it. These are double conversion online units and the rectifier and inverter are always on to provide the cleanest power. Typically we say these types of units have a life of 7-10 years. I don't know how long this unit ran for in that time, but even just sitting for long periods of time can cause issues with the electronic components.
