I have a Backup XS 1300 (Model # BX1300LCD) with a build date of 07.
The fan in the unit has recently started running and showing a low battery. All that was connected to it was a DVR and DSL modem. I disconnected everything from it and let it charge all day with no load. The fan kept kicking on but did stay off for a few hours at one point. With the battery fully charged I unplugged it from the wall. The fan started and it was giving the 5 beeps. Within 5 minutes the battery was dead. The LCD display snowed no Replace Battery or System Faults, just 3 events. At this point I removed the batteries and they where fairly warm. I suspect the battery has finely gave out?

Hi Bert, it sounds like the batteries could very well be going bad on you. When you first turn the unit on and it runs a self test, does it pass that self test (ie does it flash any lights or continue to make any beeping noises?) If the leds look fine, I would suggest unplugging the ups unit from the wall and have it run on battery with your load connected (I would not recommend having a computer on this test in case the battery can not support the load , but any devices that can turn off suddenly should be fine.) If the load turns off during this test, then I would suggest getting some replacement batteries. In general, our ups batteries last between 3 and 5 years, so it sounds like your battery could fall within that range. Hope this helps.
