A few weeks ago, my Back UPS XS 800 began flashing the flashing the red "replace battery" light. I let it go for a while, because the computer on that unit hadn't been turned on in a while. So I needed to work on the computer this weekend, I turned it on, and everything works fine. Red light is still flashing, but the computer runs fine.
I left the computer on, went to run some errands, and came back to my office. The computer is off and the both the Overload and Replace Battery lights are flashing, in unison, very quickly. I figured I might as well replace the battery, so I bought a replacement, then brought everything back on line. The green light was running and everything was fine. This was Saturday.
Today, Monday, I come to my office, and the UPS is doing the dual flashing lights thing again. The computer wasn't even on at this time and there couldn't have been more than a trickle of draw coming through from my iPod.
Any idea what is going on here?

yes, unfortunately it is an interfault fault as ginbot86 confirmed.

I think that the lights are an internal hardware fault condition. The UPS is probably toast.

just to confirm, the other LEDs (online and on battery) are off, correct? if so, this is an internal fault indication unfortunately and the UPS would need to be replaced.

Yeah, the other lights are off.
Additionally, pass through plugs work fine, the only thing affected is the UPS powered outlets.
