this UPS ships with a preinstalled network management card (either AP9619 or AP9631). this is the device that will provide email notification.
our knowledge base has information on setting that up and configuring it: http://www.apc.com/site/support/index.cfm/faq/
articles to refer to:
FA156064 - will help you set up and configure the network management card with TCP/IP settings
as far as setting up email itself, there are instructions in the network management card user's guide depending on what model you have. let's assume AP9631: http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/PMAR-8P9G2C_R2_EN.pdf
this will help with setting up an email server, adding a recipient, etc
the network management card has the following interfaces that you can access or set up for monitoring/configuration: SNMP, telnet, syslog, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, SCP, and SSH. I think i got them all.
then for graceful shutdown of your attached devices, you'll want to look at powerchute network shutdown software and check the compatibility chart.
