Which Powerchute?

This was originally posted on APC forums on 8/15/2011

I am running Windows 7 64bit and have an Back-UPS Pro 650SI (PB0212310181), I am trying to find the appropriate software to monitor the UPS via Windows 7.
I have downloaded and tried PCPE 3.0 64bit and 2.2.0, I have also tried PCBE 9.01 and each program says it cannot locate my UPS and the installation fails at that point.
My UPS has a Serial Port on it so I have installed a Serial Port on my PC so that I can use the data cable that came with my UPS when I bought it.

Can anybody suggest any help or point me in the right direction in this regard?

Thanks,

Pedro

My sentiments too but companies want you to update so they can have their profits maintained or increased, so to achieve that they drop support or updated software for their older but still operable products, sad really because it turns customers away when the time does come to upgrade.
You generally find that the newer product doesn't last anywhere near as long as you r old one either.

hi pedro,

i believe that UPS only supports simple signaling with the APC [940-0020 serial cable|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=940-0020]. powerchute personal edition only supports Back UPS with USB. with the simple signaling cable, you will want to retry powerchute business edition but install it in simple signaling mode. the only way to test if its working with older simple signaling back ups would be to unplug AC power and refresh the status page to see if it indicates on battery. while its online, the web page is very limited and it will only report online. no additional data is available.

[there is some info here|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2396] to verify what i said for your model. its for windows XP but PCBE is supported by Windows 7 as well.

hope that helps.
