WMI interface

This question was originally posted by Stefan on APC forums on 7/4/2014

I have a SmartUPS 1500 connected via USB to a Windows 7 PC running PowerChute Business Edition and would like to retrieve UPS status information via WMI.

Is that possible/supported?

I am not too familiar with WMI (or aware of any specific support we have) but I did some research and found this link-> APC PowerChute Agent (Windows) | thwack

I don't know if it will be helpful but if anyone has anything else to add, please let us know.

No, it wasn't helpful with regards to my question.

The tool just uses WMI to access the windows event log remotely and look for APCPBEAgent messages.

What I'm looking for is access to the UPS data (Input/Output voltages, Temperature, Load, etc) through WMI (locally or remotely).

Maybe someone else has experience with this and a hint for me.

Thanks

Bill P. - are you familiar with WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) and if there is any capability with Windows 7 Native OS or PowerChute?

Thanks, I'm well aware of that.

Searching through various fora I discovered posts indicating that UPS management through WMI does not work while PowerChute is installed.

UPS Tools - Spiceworks - Page 2

PowerChute apparently disables the native Windows UPS management and with it the WMI interface is gone as well.

I was actually thinking about that this morning!

If you perhaps pursue switching to Native OS support, maybe that will work. We have some instructions on removing PowerChute and restoring the UPS HID driver if you'd like to pursue that.

What to do if the system is missing native shutdown battery options / How to restore HID UPS device ...
