Smart-UPS 2200INET - how to restore runtime after battery replacement?

This was originally posted on APC forums on 12/21/2010

Hi, I have this UPS and have just replaced the batteries as the old ones were bad. I ran the runtime calibration procedure but the UPS stopped it too soon (there was still 48.6V on the batteries), so it still shows 4 minutes runtime at 48.8% load, which was probably true with the old batteries, but I have new ones now and they even are a bit bigger (20Ah instead of 18Ah).

Last time I replaced the batteries I pulled the plug out of the wall socket and let the UPS discharge completely and shut down (because I wanted to see how long can it last with the new batteries), after that, the UPS probably displayed the correct runtime. However, the reason I have a UPS is so that I do not have to switch off my computers even when the power fails (for a short enough time) and I do not want to switch them off just to restore the runtime indicator.

I searched on Google and found out that it is possible to change the battery constant and then run the calibration and it should work OK, however, I could not find the constant for my UPS.

So, does anyone know the constant for my UPS or some way of calibrating the runtime that does not involve switching off the load?

(Just minor nitpicks about my UPS in general - why does the runtime calibration stop when the UPS thinks that there is 25% of battery capacity remaining, why not discharge the battery completely? Also, the fan turns on only when the batteries are charging or the UPS runs from the battery, so if it's 35C in the room the UPS gets quite hot and this shortens the battery life).

That's a bit of a problem - there is no APC office in Lithuania, international phone calls cost a lot, but more importantly I cannot really speak English - I can write, read and understand the language quite well, but speaking it is a problem.

I found this sticker near the top of the back of the UPS, above the fan. Maybe there is another one, I didn't see it.

I took a photo of the sticker:
