I just purchased two used Smart-UPS 1400s, which utilize a serial connection. When I connect the serial cable to my server, then plug it into the UPS, it immediately kills the power to the UPS and thus, my server.
I assumed they use a standard db9 RS232 connection. Is that not right?
I tried this with and without having PowerChute installed. It made no difference.
When the serial cable was attached at both ends, I could not even turn the UPS on. I had to disconnect the cable from the UPS in order to power everything back up.
Any advice and insight would be much appreciated.
tia.

Hey,
You need to use the cable shipped with the UPS. Its part number should be 940-0024C or 940-0024D, or 940-1524C or 940-1524D , this depends on what specific UPS model you are using.

Thanks for the reply.
As I purchased them used, they didn't come with cables. I'll see if I can find some.
Todd.
