Powerchute not finding SMT2200RM2U

This was originally posted on APC forums on 8/24/2015

I have a SMT2200RM2u that has been running about 4 years,  it had been running so well and power had been stable that I had never noticed that the Powerchute software was no long monitoring.  Of course after 4 years the batteries needed to be replaced,  during that process is when I discovered that the Powerchute no longer has visiblity to the SMT2200.

It's USB connected,  I moved the USB connection to another server,  installed the PowerChute,  and same problem Powerchute doesn't configure the UPS.  Windows device manager sees the USB connection and shows up under Battery,  but Powerchute doesn't configure it.

I don't know where to go from here,  I don't think the off brand batteries are workint out,  but I hoped see some real information to make that decision rather relying on a guess.

Ron,

The drivers are provided by Microsoft.

The USB HID driver for Windows are signed by Microsoft or to be more precise by 'Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility PCA'

The USB drivers can be found in
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository
The drivers are apcups.inf_XXXXXXX

On my Windows 7 x64 system I have

apcups.inf_amd64_neutral_68cc2541aad5db7e and apcups.inf_amd64_neutral_bea1b5a2ba50aof7

Also, when you look in C:\Windows\system32\Drivers do you see hidclass.sys, hidparse.sys, hidusb.sys?

1 - When you log into the PowerChute Web interface does it show no communications with the UPS? The login is https://:6547

2 - In device manager what driver is displayed HID UPS Battery or APC UPS?

3 - Also in device manager under Human Interface Devices is American Power Conversion USB UPS displayed and if so when you open American Power Conversion USB UPS and select Driver Tab and then Driver Details what drivers are displayed?

Hi,

You need to load the APC UPS USB driver. Kbase FA164514 has instructions on how to load the driver. PowerChute should then recognize the UPS.

I followed the instructions in the knowledge base,  but same result.  When even I searc for drivers,  it only presents me with the HID driver.  Is there some place to download the actual driver?
