Back-UPS RS 1500G displays wrong UPS info in PowerChute Business Edition

This was originally posted on APC forums on 11/21/2019

UPS model: Back-UPS RS 1500G

PowerChute Business: 9.5.0.301

Windows Version: Server 2016 std

Obviously these values are incorrect. The UPS outputs normal data when using powerchute personal, but because I'm running a server OS. PCE won't install. I've also had the same result on the newer version 10.0.1. Any idea why this is happening? I've tried reinstalling and using both 32 and 64 bit versions.

I wasn't able to get PCPE running on Server OS, says "not compatible with this Operating system" even when I run it it compatiblity mode. Didn't know about APCUPSD though, I'll try it out. Thank you!

Hi,

PowerChute Business Edition is not designed to work with a Back-UPS RS. Your options are to use the power options available in the control panel. See Schneider Electric FAQ FA159653. If you required a more robust application there is APCUPSD. The final option is PowerChute Personal Edition. PCPE is not officially supported on Windows Server OS however, it will work.

Re: Back-UPS RS 1500G displays wrong UPS info in PowerChute Business Edition

I am trying PowerChute Business Edition 10.0.5.301 with Back-UPS XS 700U.  Looking at the data the software simply seem to be display the incorrect order of magnitude for everything except the remaining runtime.  Internal temperature and battery charge too low by 10, frequencies to low by 100.  If the software was using these value internally the shutdown would have been immediate, yet it carries on running.

  1. If PowerChute Business Edition is incompatible with the UPS it is connected why is there are no error messages?
  2. If it is simply a scaling problem for data values, then why don't APC add the appropriate configuration information?

I'll take a look at the alternative solutions and see how well they work.
