APC SmartUPS RT 3000 fault

This was originally posted on APC forums on 11/7/2013

Good morning,

I have a APC SmartUPS RT 3000 220V wich is not working properly.

It has the Bypass, Fault and first battery LEDs on, when energized by 220V on the input.

                                          0

                                          0

                         X (Fault)     0

                                          0

     X (Bypass)                     1

It has the Fault and third battery LEDs on, when have no power on the input.

                                          0

                                          0

                         X (Fault)     1

                                          0

                                          0

What it means? What can be done? I haven't found it on the manual!

Thanks in advance!

The first indicator indicates an inverter fault. The second one indicates Power Factor Correction (PFC) fault.

These are pretty serious. You could potentially check the UPS Network Management Card log if your UPS has one, even if it wasn't previously configured. But, these are probably not anything you can fix and the UPS may need to be repaired or replace and how that is done may depend in your warranty status.

Do you know when this started - for instance, was there a long outage or power event prior to this fault state so we can understand why this happened? Some back-story might be good.
